Unknown to the crew is that the ship was also sent to the system to search for and, possibly, rescue the crew of a ship named the Degasi, which crashed on planet 4546B ten years prior. The Aurora, a deep-space vessel constructed by the Alterra Corporation, has been sent to a system at the outer reaches of known space on its maiden voyage under the pretenses of constructing high-speed space travel infrastructure. Subnautica takes place in the late 22nd century, in a spacefaring future. The game supports VR headsets, such as the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift, with the additional input of a keyboard and mouse or game controller. Additionally, the submersibles, a stasis rifle, a Seaglide, a mobile vehicle bay, and a propulsion cannon are provided, which do not need an energy source to operate. In creative mode, all depleting characteristics, such as health and thirst, are removed, all blueprints are unlocked, and the player can craft without needing resources.Additionally, the player does not receive warnings of low oxygen levels as they would in other modes. Some of the most extreme dangers to the player include dangerous fauna like Crabsquids, Bone Sharks, Ampeels, Stalkers, Crashfish, and Leviathan-class lifeforms like the Reaper, Sea Dragon and Ghost Leviathans. Players can collect resources and blueprints, construct tools, build bases and submersibles, and interact with the planet's wildlife. The main objective is to explore the ocean and survive its dangers, while completing tasks to advance the plot. The player controls the lone survivor of the crashed spacecraft known as Aurora, Ryley Robinson, as he is stranded on a remote ocean planet known as 4546B in the Galaxy of Andromeda. Subnautica is a title for those who love to explore.Subnautica is an action-adventure game developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Its setting puts it heads and shoulders above even some established intellectual properties, and although its main gameplay may stick a little close to the genre norms, it's still engaging enough to be enjoyable. As such, gamers could get a little bit worn out in long doses, and need to take some time before plunging into the depths once more.Īll in all, though, Subnautica is definitely one of the more interesting survival games on the market. After all, Subnautica is all about gathering and building, and there's only so much that its unique location and the ability to build underwater bases can provide. This, perhaps, is where the game struggles, and the game's odd performance issue is at its most infuriating when trying to avoid disturbing some of the underwater predators that inhabit the world.Īs well as this, occasionally the sheen of the game's setting will fade from view, leaving players with the realization that they are following a similar kind of formula that they have seen before. There are dangerous creatures in the depths, and this can lead to some scary and potentially frustrating moments. Things do get a little more tense the further Subnautica goes on, though.
